Tomie Kay Morse
Owner & OperatorTomie Kay Morse is a force to be reckoned with. Her strength, devotion and hard work ethic stands tall to be a vital part of the Morse team. Not only is she responsible for overseeing the administrative duties and the accounting department including accounts payable, receivables, HR, employee health insurance, employee 401k administrator, all product payments, fleet renewals/insurance, and marketing and advertising purchases. She also collaborates with our outside accountants to prepare our company financial statements. It is clear to see that without Tomie, Morse Roofing and Siding would not have the same vigilance or successful rhythm. Although it is her current character that we all know and love, Tomie Kay also had a life before Morse Home Improvement.
Tomie Kay received her work ethic from her loving and supportive parents, Gary and Sharon Layton. They taught her from a very young age how important a great work ethic is and they both lead by example. They taught her responsibility, productivity, organizational skills, timeliness, and if you want more to work harder. During her youth, she spent most of her time in Ocean View, DE. She attended Lord Baltimore Elementary School and Indian River High School. Since family was always a priority to her, Tomie was married and had her first child, Alexandra, after high school. Enrolling in the Criminal Justice Program at DTCC. She worked for a brief time for the Dewey Beach Police Department and there she realized her passion for law enforcement. Once her daughter began school full time, she volunteered at Alexandra's school and for the Lewes Rehoboth Association of Churches. After resiliently enduring the hardships of miscarriages, Tomie gave birth to her son, Lee. Now a mother of two children that attended school full-time, Tomie had to find work based around her children's schedule. She accepted a position at Brandywine Assisted Living where she used her characteristics of care and compassion to help the elderly. Soon after, she survived the adversity of divorce and court. This was just the beginning of Tomie and her continuous push to keep working harder.
In 2008, she married her soulmate, Tom Morse. The couple was perfectly in love and the wedding bliss was memorable. Unfortunately, the bliss came to a fast halt when Tomie broke her tailbone and fractured her cervical vertebrae. It is with the strength of the couple's love and Tomie's power that she was able to recover from major spinal surgery. After healing from this tragic event, she obtained the State Farm Property Adjuster Certification, Rope and Harness Certification, and was licensed in fifty states. She started with State Farm as a Rope and Harness Insurance Adjuster with her spouse, Tom. A brief time later she then became an Inside Desk Adjuster deployed during catastrophic events for extended periods of time across the United States.
Over the years, the inspections and the many deployments provided the experience and expertise to earn the promotion to in office management as a State Farm IA Trainer. Eventually she and Tom would be deployed separately, Tom as a field adjuster and she as an in-office IA Manager. It was while being constantly deployed away from home their granddaughter asked why do I have to fly on an airplane to see you and Papaw? It was then they knew they needed to change career paths that would allow them to be at home 100% of the time to be with their family and enjoy their two grandchildren, Blake and Sebastian.
Representing the meaning of a sincere team, Tom would then work for Morse Home Improvement during the day, and she would review claims files during the day for State Farm and work for Morse Home Improvement in the evening. Finally leaving the insurance world of adjusting claims in 2017, the couple both decided to focus and devote full time on their own business, Morse Home Improvement.
Tomie Kay has excelled as an owner and operator and holds the industry's highest certifications through their manufactures. She is a CertainTeed Master Craftsman Shingle Applicator and holds the rare and prestigious award of a CertainTeed Wizard. She is also a Certified TAMKO Mastercraft Pro Contractor as well as completing the VSI Certification as a vinyl siding installer.
Through love, hard work, devotion and dedication to their team and family, Tomie Kay and Tom work together long endless days to make Morse Roofing and Siding what it is today.
